WHAT DO OTHERS EXPERIENCE

Research often begins with curiosity, but sometimes it begins with uncertainty.

When I started a new role, much of the work involved using Excel and managing large amounts of data. Although I was excited about the opportunity, I was also anxious. I was unsure of what was expected of me and worried about whether I had the skills to perform effectively. The uncertainty created stress, and at times I found myself working through challenges alone.

As I reflected on this experience, I began to ask a broader question: What do other people experience when they come into contact with new technologies? Why do some people embrace technology with confidence while others experience anxiety, stress, or resistance?

Those questions became the starting point of my research journey.

I am still learning, and I do not yet have all the answers. However, I am hopeful that through my research I will better understand these experiences, contribute to knowledge, and perhaps help organisations support employees as they navigate technological change.

Today, as I explore topics such as Generative AI, technostress, sensemaking, and organisational change, I am beginning to understand that technology adoption is not only about systems and tools. It is also about people, their experiences, their interpretations, and the contexts in which they work.

Sometimes research starts with a simple question. Sometimes it starts with our own experiences. For me, it started with both.
